Our laboratory in Arzano is one of the few in Italy equipped for the professional calibration of LED walls from any manufacturer. Services are also available for third parties.

what we measure

No "visual checks" — only documented instrumental measurements, stored for years in our archives and provided to the client as a detailed PDF report.

— 01 chromaticity

UPRTEK MK350S Premium

Portable spectroradiometer with ±0.0015 accuracy in CIE 1931 xy coordinates. Measures: CCT (Kelvin), CRI (Ra), R9 (saturated red rendering), DCI-P3 and Rec.2020 color gamut, flicker percentage and index.

Application: D65 white validation, LED chip binning verification, gamut certification for virtual production.

— 02 luminance

Konica Minolta CS-160

1° spot luminance meter with ±2% accuracy. Measures the real nit of the LED wall at different gray levels, luminance maps on grid (e.g. 9 points), and decay over time.

Application: declared vs measured brightness validation, uniformity mapping (banding), degradation tests.

— 03 thermal

FLIR E5 Thermal Camera

Thermal imaging with 0.10°C resolution. Reveals hot-spots on modules under stress, evaluates heat sink and ventilation efficiency, and anticipates hardware failures.

Application: thermal certification of installations, predictive failure analysis, cooling system project validation.

— 04 electrical

Fluke Power Analyzer

Measures real power consumption (W, kWh), power factor (PF), harmonics (THD), voltages, and currents. The baseline to size electrical systems and validate regulatory compliance.

Application: power distribution sizing, consumption optimization, EN61000 grid compliance verification.

when it is needed

  • New system testing — validation of the specifications declared by the manufacturer before the final payment.
  • Technical dispute — independent expert opinion in case of client-supplier litigation. Report admissible in legal venues.
  • Preventive maintenance — periodic diagnostics for critical installations (broadcast, stadiums, DOOH).
  • Compliance certification — chromatic-photometric report for broadcast, virtual production projects, and public tenders.
  • Degradation analysis — repeated measurements over time to quantify the light and chromatic decay of the LEDs.

how it works

  1. Site survey or lab inspection — we come to you for fixed installations; individual modules or cabinets can be brought to our lab in Arzano.
  2. Measurement — typically 2-4 hours for LED walls up to 30m², depending on the depth required.
  3. Data analysis — 24-48 hours to process the measurements and generate the report.
  4. Signed PDF report — complete technical document: raw data, graphs, compliance with standards, recommendations.
  5. Follow-up — available for clarification calls or corrective actions if necessary.

why a LED wall is not a monitor

Calibrating a monitor writes a profile into the computer; calibrating a LED wall writes coefficients into the screen itself — into the receiving cards that drive each module — so that every LED is corrected at the source, whatever signal arrives. That is why a wall calibrated in the laboratory stays calibrated when it is moved, rented out and reassembled, and why the correction cannot be undone by a wrong setting on a laptop.

There is a cost that no brochure prints: a calibration always removes some luminance, because it aligns every module to the weakest one. A wall that leaves the factory at a declared brightness will measure a little lower after calibration, and the difference is the price of uniformity. We state it in the report rather than let it be discovered on site, and we measure the real figure with the CS-160 rather than quote the data sheet.

what the report contains

Raw measurements, not a summary: luminance at several grey levels on a grid across the wall (nine points is the usual minimum), colour coordinates and correlated colour temperature at each point, colour rendering (CRI and R9), gamut coverage against DCI-P3 and Rec.2020, flicker percentage and index, thermal images of the panels under load with the hottest points marked, and the electrical figures — real power, power factor, harmonic distortion. Each measurement carries the instrument, its accuracy and the conditions in which it was taken. The report is signed, kept in our archive for years, and written so that a third party can repeat the measurement and compare.

walls of any make, including ones we did not sell

The service exists for third parties as much as for our own customers. A wall bought from another supplier can be measured here before the final payment, to check that the declared specification is the delivered one; an installed wall can be measured on site when a dispute arises, and the report is written to be usable in that context; a rental fleet can be measured periodically to quantify how the LEDs are ageing. We do not need to have sold the wall to measure it, and measuring it does not commit you to anything else.

the laboratory behind the service

Two hundred and fifty square metres in Arzano, on the northern edge of Naples, equipped with the Konica Minolta CS-160, two UPRTEK MK350S Premium spectroradiometers, FLIR E5 and E6 thermal cameras, four digital oscilloscopes, bench power supplies, power meters, 500× microscopes, three Weller and four Quick soldering stations. The same bench repairs at pixel level: replacing a single DIP, SMD or GOB LED takes between ten and forty minutes and costs a fraction of a replacement module, and the repaired pixel is calibrated locally to a colour difference below ΔE 1.5 from its neighbours — where a new module next to a two-year-old one typically shows ΔE 4 to 8, visible from three metres.
